NEW YORK - Shares of apparel makers ended slightly down Wednesday, while the broader market declined sharply as the price of oil hit yet another record high, sparking new fears about inflation.
Apparel makers had been moving higher earlier in the session, after a Labor Department report showed first-quarter labor costs rose at a slower pace than 2007 fourth quarter, but gave up those gains as the market turned down.
Here is a look at how some apparel makers performed:
Jones Apparel Group Inc. fell 28 cents to $16.87.
VF Corp. lost 40 cents to $74.55.
Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. gave up 85 cents to $59.88.
Liz Claiborne Inc. slipped 10 cents to $18.47.
