COLUMBIA, S.C. - House members are considering amendments to a $7 billion state budget that would restore money to college research and tourism programs.
Rep. Dan Cooper, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said Wednesday that changes were made to the Senate's version of the bill.
The changes include providing $10 million more each for the research programs and tourism promotion. The Senate had cut $20 million from the research programs and all the state's spending on tourism promotion grants.
Debate on the amendment stalled when Democrats raised questions about changes sought by House Speaker Bobby Harrell. His proposals include using sales tax on cars to fix roads and providing tax breaks for married couples and film makers.
