Albany International Chairman Frank R. Schmeler retires

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Albany International Corp., a textiles and materials processing company, said Friday its chairman Frank R. Schmeler retired as chairman.

Erland E. Kailbourne replaces him as chairman. He has been a director since 1999 and is chairman of Financial Institutions Inc. and its Five Star Bank subsidiary.

Albany also named John C. Standish as vice chairman, a new position. Standish has been a director since 2001 and is a former Albany executive. Standish's family and its family trusts own enough shares to cast about 55 percent all shareholder votes.

Also, Thomas R. Beecher Jr. retired as director.

Shares rose 18 cents to $33.77 in midday trading.
