Canadian unemployment rate edges up in April; so does employment
FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Unemployment rate increased slightly in Canada in April despite the mild rise on net jobs creation, similar to the one posted in the previous week, according to data released by Statistics Canada.
In April, Canadian Unemployment rate edged up to 6.1% from 6.0% in March, although employment increased by 19,200 new net jobs, an increase following another one of 14,600 posted in March.
In the last twelve months to April, employment has increased by 348,000 new works, a 2.1% of the work force, with full-time employment growing twice as fast then part-time employment. By sectors, employment has increased the largest in April in accommodation and food services and construction, while construction and industry were the largest contributors to employment in the last 12 months.
