WASHINGTON (AP) - The Food and Drug Administration is concerned that some medical facilities still have heparin in stock despite a recall by the California Department of Health and the FDA's own recall monitoring, according to a published report Friday.
The agency has increased its alerts to hospitals and pharmaceutical organizations about the recall of the contaminated blood thinner, The Wall Street Journal reported.
"Please help FDA spread the word about recalls of injectable heparin products and heparin flush solutions that may be contaminated with oversulfated chondroitin sulfate," a notice from the agency read, according to The Journal. "Affected heparin products have been found in medical care facilities in one state since the recall announcement."
