WOODLANDS, Texas - Biotechnology company Repros Therapeutics Inc. said Friday its first-quarter loss widened on higher spending for clinical development programs.

The company reported a loss of $6.7 million, or 52 cents per share, compared with a loss of $3.7 million, or 31 cents per share, a year ago. Revenue fell to $269,000 from $318,000.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial were expecting a loss of 43 cents per share.
Total expenses rose 75 percent to $7 million from $4 million.
Shares of Repros fell 1 cent to $8.82 in after-hours trading after falling 16 cents to close at $8.83 during the regular trading session.
