NEW YORK - Chile-based carrier LAN Airlines SA said Monday its traffic rose 7.8 percent last month as it added capacity and filled more seats.

April capacity increased to 6.2 percent, the carrier said. LAN's load factor, a measure of occupancy, increased 1.1 percentage points to 87 percent.
The figures cover LAN's entire system. International traffic increased 7 percent, while domestic traffic in Chile rose 13.1 percent, the airline said.
LAN did not break out precise traffic and capacity numbers.
LAN shares rose 2 cents to $11.68 in morning trading.
