NEW YORK (AP) - AnnTaylor Stores is boosting its first-quarter outlook on stronger results at its Loft chain.

The New York-based women's apparel retailer says better overall expense and inventory management also helped results.
AnnTaylor now expects earnings, excluding one-time costs, to be 45 to 47 cents per share, from 35 to 40 cents per share.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect a profit of 36 cents per share.
The company says sales for the quarter that ended May 3 rose 2 percent to $592 million from $580 million. Analysts predicted revenue of $588.2 million.
Sales in stores open at least one year fell 4.3 percent, including an 11.5 percent drop at Ann Taylor stores and a 0.7 percent rise at Loft stores.
