NxStage Medical reaffirms 2008 profit outlook

LAWRENCE, Mass. - Medical device maker NxStage Medical Inc. reaffirmed its full-year guidance for a loss and lowered its projections for the number of patients using its dialysis systems.

The company expects a loss of $1.41 to $1.52 per share on revenue between $130 million to $135 million in 2008. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect a loss of $1.42 on revenue of $133.9 million.

The company said it expects to end the year with between 3,100 and 3,500 patients using its SystemOne device. Previously, it projected between 3,700 to 4,100 patients by the end of the year.

NxStage expects second-quarter profit between 37 cents and 40 cents per share on revenue between $30.5 million and $32.5 million. Analysts expect a loss of 37 cents per share on revenue of $32.6 million.

Shares of NxStage fell 13 cents to $6.61 in after-hours trading after rising 29 cents, or 4.5 percent, to close at $6.74 during the regular trading session.
