NEW YORK - Credit ratings agency Standard & Poor's said Tuesday it is altering its criteria for rating speculative-grade credit.
Speculative-grade credit, commonly referred to as "junk," is anything S&P rates "BB+" or lower.
S&P will now place more weight on near-term risk factors -which S&P considers a two-year time horizon -when reviewing speculative-grade credit.
A new ratings matrix was also designed to help evaluate the probability, impact and time frame of risks and opportunities that confront companies, S&P said in a statement.
