NEW YORK (AP) - Shares of electrical equipment companies closed higher on Thursday as broader markets were boosted by a stream of economic data that showed the U.S. economy may be in better shape than some thought.
The Labor Department said jobless claims grew last week, in line with analyst estimates. And Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said in a speech he was "encouraged" by recent efforts by banks to raise cash and ease the credit crisis.
Here's how some shares of electrical equipment stocks performed:
Jabil Circuit Inc., up 25 cents, or 2.2 percent, to $11.68.
Regal Beloit Corp., up 86 cents to $46.50.
Itron Inc., up $2.53, or 2.8 percent, to $92.59.
Flextronics International Ltd., up 14 cents to $10.87.
