HOUSTON (AP) - Southern Union Co., an interstate natural gas pipeline company, on Thursday named Eric D. Herschmann president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.

Herschmann, 44, was previously senior executive vice president of the company since 2005. He has also been litigation counsel and interim general counsel.
He takes the president title from George L. Lindemann, who retains his chairman and chief executive titles. The COO post is a new position.
Herschmann, who lives in Englewood, N.J., will split his time between the company's New York and Houston offices.
Shares fell 28 cents to close at $26.12.
