NEW YORK (AP) - Wall Street will get a close look at consumer spending next week, with more than a dozen major retailers reporting quarterly results.
Discount chain Target Corp., which reports Tuesday, has not performed as well as rival Wal-Mart Stores Inc. during this spending downturn.
Retailers that depend on discretionary spending have struggled. Saks Inc., reporting Tuesday, has shown sales weakness as high-end consumers have grown cautious.
Home improvement retailers Lowe's Cos. Inc. and Home Depot Inc., which have been dragged down by the weak housing market, also report quarterly results Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
