Synopsys closes $223 million Synplicity purchase

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) - Synopsys Inc., which makes electronic design automation software for chip makers, said Friday it closed its acquisition of Synplicity Inc.

Synopsys agreed in March to buy Synplicity for $8 per share, or $223 million.

Synplicity makes integrated circuit design and verification software. Synopsys said the deal expands technology portfolio, reach and addressable market.

Shares of Synopsys fell 20 cents to $24.74 in morning trading.
