WESTLAKE, Ohio - Nordson Corp., which makes precision dispensing equipment, on Wednesday projected fiscal third-quarter profit above Wall Street estimates, citing expected sales growth.

The guidance, along with strong second-quarter results, sent Nordson shares climbing $5.86, or 9.6 percent, to $67 in aftermarket trading. They earlier $1.08 to $61.14 in the regular session.
Nordson forecast a profit of 91 cents to $1.01 per share, while analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect a profit of 88 cents per share.
The company projected sales growth 13 percent to 17 percent from the same period in fiscal 2007. Based on the company's third-quarter 2007 sales of $257.7 million, the guidance projects sales of $291.2 million to $301.5 million.
Analysts, on average, expect third-quarter sales of $285.1 million.
Nordson shares have traded in a 52-week range of $42.30 to $63.87.
