SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Tyson Foods Inc., the world's largest meat producer, has promoted David L. Van Bebber to executive vice president and general counsel, effectively immediately, the company said Wednesday.

Van Bebber, 52, succeeds J. Alberto Gonzalez-Pita, whose last day with Tyson Foods was May 2. Alberto Gonzalez-Pita said at the time that he wanted to "pursue other opportunities."
Van Bebber was promoted from deputy general counsel and senior vice president. He joined the company in 1986 after serving as general counsel and secretary of Lane Processing Companies of Arkansas and participating in the negotiation and sale of Lane to Tyson Foods in 1986.
