US dollar down in Europe

LONDON - The U.S. dollar was mostly lower against other major currencies in European trading Thursday morning. Gold rose.

The euro traded at $1.5767, down from $1.5780 late Wednesday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

_103.23 Japanese yen, down from 104.17

_1.0261 Swiss francs, down from 1.0272

_0.9839 Canadian dollars, down from 0.9848

The British pound was quoted at $1.9783, up from $1.9689.

Gold traded in London at $928.25 per troy ounce, up from $927.00 late Wednesday.

Silver opened in London at $18.15, up from $17.64.
