Wind River sees fiscal 2009 profit beating Street

ALAMEDA, Calif. - Software developer Wind River Systems Inc. on Thursday forecast it would swing to a profit in the fiscal 2009, and issued an outlook that put its earnings above Wall Street forecasts.

The company predicted earnings of 10 to 12 cents per share, or 48 to 50 cents per share after adjustments, for the 2009 fiscal year, which ends Jan. 31.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial are expecting the company to earn 44 cents per share, on average. Those forecasts typically exclude one-time items. In the year-ago period, the company posted a loss of 3 cents per share.

Wind River expects revenue of $365 million to $375 million, up 11 percent to 14 percent over the $328.6 million booked in the prior-year period. Analysts are predicting revenue of $368.6 million.

For the second quarter, the company predicted a loss of 1 cent to 2 cents per share, or a gain of 7 cents to 8 cents per share after adjustments. Revenue is expected to be $86 million to $88 million.

Analysts are forecasting a second-quarter profit of 10 cents per share on revenue of $89 million.

Shares of the company added 25 cents, or 2.9 percent, to close at $8.96.
