WASHINGTON - The Federation of American Hospitals, which represents for-profit hospital chains, spent $630,000 on lobbying in the first quarter, according to a government disclosure form.
The group lobbied Congress on legislation to improve health information technology. Lobbyists also advocated the insurance industry's views on legislation that would require equal health insurance coverage for mental and physical illnesses when policies cover both.
Representatives for the group also lobbied the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services.
The group's members include LifePoint Hospitals Inc., Universal Health Services Inc. and Tenet Healthcare Corp.
Among those lobying for the group was Conwell Smith, former Senior Health Policy Advisor for the Senate Budget Committee.
