The dollar fell against the euro on Friday after an index of Milwaukee-area manufacturing fell to its lowest level in five years.

The dollar traded at $1.5555 per euro at 4 p.m. in New York, from $1.5519 on Thursday. The dollar was little changed at 105.41 yen, compared to 105.87 yen the previous day. The euro was to 164.00 yen from 163.71 yen a day earlier.

The National Association of Purchasing Management-Chicago said on Friday its Milwaukee monthly index of regional manufacturing fell to 45, from 48 in April. Figures under 50 indicate contraction.

Other economic reports showed that consumer spending and income both grew at a rate of 0.2 percent. Meanwhile, the Reuters/University of Michigan survey of consumer sentiment fell to 59.8 from 62.6 in April, its lowest level since June 1980.
