INDIANAPOLIS - Regional carrier Republic Airways Holdings, which operates connecting flights for a number of major airlines, said Monday its traffic jumped 21.7 percent last month on a similarly large increase in capacity.

May traffic increased to 898 million revenue passenger miles from 738.1 million a year earlier. A revenue passenger mile is an industry measurement accounting for one paying passenger flown one mile.
Capacity rose to 1.17 billion available seat miles, from 961.3 million previously. Load factor, a measure of occupancy, was flat at 76.8 percent.
So far this year, Republic traffic is up 29.9 percent at 4.07 billion revenue passenger miles. Capacity increased 29 percent to 5.56 billion miles, while occupancy increased 0.6 percentage points to 73.2 percent.
Republic shares fell 15 cents to $12.05 in after-hours trading. The stock gained 3 cents to $12.21 during the regular session.
