Same-store sales, or sales at locations open at least a year, is a key indicator of restaurant performance since it measures growth at existing locations rather than newly opened ones.
Average menu prices increased 2.8 percent during the month at Bob Evans restaurants, while average menu prices at Mimi's Cafe locations rose 2.6 percent.
The company said results at the Bob Evans chain reflect a favorable consumer response to its Big Farm Salads promotion. At Mimi's Cafe, the company said it is focusing on its "Just Enough" menu, which features "right-sized, right-priced" entrees for lunch. The company is currently testing a dinner version of the menu at select restaurants.
Bob Evans calculated its same-store sales results based on 547 namesake locations and 102 Mimi's Cafe locations.
Shares rose 85 cents, or 3 percent, to close at $29.09. Shares added 61 cents to $29.70 in aftermarket trading.
