NEW YORK - Shares of some broadline retailers rose on Tuesday after after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke reiterated expectations the economy will improve later this year.
The second half of the year should bring "somewhat better economic conditions," Bernanke said in a speech in Spain.
The news caused some broadline retailers to rise in early trading.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., up 44 cents to $57.64.
Target Corp., up 28 cents to $53.10.
BJ Wholesale Club Inc., up 57 cents to $40.58.
Costco Wholesale Corp., up 24 cents to $70.57.
