US dollar higher in Europe

LONDON - The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Friday morning. Gold rose.

The euro traded at $1.5590, down from $1.5593 late Thursday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

_106.14 Japanese yen, up from 105.64

_1.0398 Swiss francs, up from 1.0373

_1.0183 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0184

The British pound was quoted at $1.9545, down from $1.9596.

Gold traded in London at $ 883.50 per troy ounce, up from $ 878.75 late Thursday.

Silver opened in London at $17.18, up from $16.92.
