WASHINGTON - The Arete Foundation, of which Atlas America Inc. Chairman, Chief executive and President Edward E. Cohen is a trustee, sold 10,000 shares of common stock, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

In a Form 4 filed Friday with the SEC, Cohen reported he sold the shares for $44.75 to $46.72 apiece.

Insiders file Form 4s with the SEC to report transactions in their companies' shares. Open market purchases and sales must be reported within two business days of the transaction.

Atlas America, a natural gas producer, is based in Moon Township, Pa.
