NEW YORK - Shares of gold-mining companies closed lower Thursday as the price of the metal fell in U.S. trading.
Gold for July delivery lost $18.80 to $864.10 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after earlier falling as low as $859.60.
How some gold miners fared:
Goldcorp Inc. fell 84 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $38.46.
Gold Fields Ltd. fell 64 cents, or 5.4 percent, to $11.06.
Newmont Mining Corp. fell 55 cents to $46.65.
Barrick Gold Corp. fell $1.02, or 2.6 percent, to $38.59.
