NEW YORK - Shares of gold mining companies opened lower Thursday as the price of the metal fell in early U.S. trading.
The price of gold on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell $17.80 to $861.90 per ounce.
Here is how some gold mining companies are trading:
Goldcorp Inc. fell $1.09, or 2.8 percent, to $38.21
Gold Fields Ltd. fell 43 cents, or 3.7 percent, to $11.26
Newmont Mining Corp. fell 96 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $46.18
Barrick Gold Corp. fell $1.31, or 3.3 percent, to $38.25.
