NEW YORK - Shares of gold-mining companies opened mostly higher Friday, as a rising stock market offset a gold price decline.
The Dow Jones industrial average is up about 124 at the 12,266 level. The price of gold for August delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange slipped $5.70 to $866.30 per ounce.
How some gold miners are trading:
Goldcorp Inc. rose 16 cents to $38.62.
Gold Fields Ltd. fell 15 cents to $10.91.
Newmont Mining Corp. rose 25 cents to $46.93.
Barrick Gold Corp. rose 16 cents to $38.75.
