NEW YORK - Shares of paper and packaging companies rose Friday, following the broader markets higher, while a Citi Investment Research analyst forecast gains from higher prices.
Citi analyst Chip Dillon said many companies have raised prices in the second quarter and third quarter, as raw-material costs continue rising.
Dillon also upgraded shares of MeadWestvaco Corp. to "Buy" from "Hold."
How some paper and packaging companies performed Friday:
Weyerhaeuser Co., up 59 cents to $56.45.
AbitibiBowater Inc., up 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $12.93.
MeadWestvaco, up $1.33, or 5.6 percent, to $25.19.
International Paper Co., up 62 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $25.35.
