As part of the efforts, Deere said its John Deere Harvester Works recently installed fluorescent lighting fixtures throughout its main assembly and sheet-metal fabrication buildings.

In addition, Deere said its Zweibruecken Works in Germany will install two carbon-neutral biomass boilers, which will generate energy to heat facilities, air-condition offices and provide heat for manufacturing.

Deere said it also will continue to look for ways to implement energy efficiency through new technology into product design, new facilities and facility updates.

The company did not disclose how much it plans to spend on the improvements.

Deere shares fell 84 cents to $79.76 in afternoon trading.
