WALLINGFORD, Conn. - Amphenol Corp., which makes electronic and fiber optic connectors and cables, said Tuesday its President and Chief Operating Officer R. Adam Norwitt will become chief executive Jan. 1, 2009.

Norwitt will replace Martin H. Loeffler, currently the company's chairman as well as CEO. Norwitt also will become a board member.
Loeffler will assume the newly created post of executive chairman, focusing on strategic direction and leadership development.
Norwitt, 39, has worked for Amphenol since 1998 and became president and COO on Jan. 1, 2006.
