WASHINGTON - The Navy awarded United Technologies Corp.'s Pratt & Whitney jet engine unit a $15.4 million contract boost for initial rate production of spare engines and related management and engineering services, the Defense Department said late Thursday.

The deal is a modification of an existing contract. Work is expected to be completed by February 2010.
Shares of the Hartford, Conn.-based company rose 75 cents to $68.82 Thursday.
