NEW YORK - Air carrier SkyWest Inc. on Friday hit a multiyear low, as the market tumbled amid persistent worries about the banking sector and rising gas prices.

The major indexes logged declines of more than 1.5 percent, and the Dow Jones industrial average ended below the 12,000 mark for the first time since mid-March.
SkyWest shares fell $1.41, or 9.2 percent, to close at $13.88. Earlier shares reached $13.59, where they have not traded since August 2004. The stock traded at a 52-week high of $29.50 in November.
