Checkpoint buying RFID software maker OATSystems

THOROFARE, N.J. - Checkpoint Systems Inc., which makes security and tracking devices for the retail sector, said Monday it agreed to buy OATSystems Inc., a maker of software for RFID or radio-tag tracking systems.

Checkpoint did not disclose the financial terms.

The company said the purchase will cut into earnings through 2009. It expects to close the deal within two weeks.

OATSystems President and Chief Executive Michael George will continue to run the business as a unit of Checkpoint.

Checkpoint said OATSystem software helps retailers track merchandise and to keep accurate inventory levels. Its clients include companies in the retail, consumer products, consumer electronics, manufacturing, life sciences, aerospace and defense industries.
