NEW YORK - Shares of machinery companies posted mixed results Wednesday, while the overall market ended an erratic day with a modest gain after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged and issued a mixed assessment of the economy.
How some machinery stocks closed Wednesday:
Manitowoc Co., up 14 cents at $36.77.
Terex Corp., down $1.04 at $59.17.
Cummins Inc., up $1.72, or 2.4 percent, at $72.57.
Caterpillar Inc., down 6 cents at $76.58.
Deere & Co., down $1.78, or 2.4 percent, at $73.56.
