NEW YORK - Shares of utility companies closed mixed Wednesday as the broader stock market edged up, after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged, and issued a lukewarm assessment of the economy.

AES Corp. slipped 12 cents to $19.04.
Constellation Energy Group Inc. lost 6 cents to $83.42.
Consolidated Edison Inc. gained 29 cents to $40.10.
