NEW YORK - Shares of gold mining companies were mostly lower in morning trading Wednesday, reflecting in part a decline in the price of the precious metal.

Goldcorp Inc. fell 69 cents to $40.98.

Gold Fields Ltd. edged up 2 cents to $11.30.

Newmont Mining Corp. fell 92 cents to $49.41.

Barrick Gold Corp. slid 63 cents to $40.32.
