Vakow, which was launched in late 2007, is growing in popularity in India, Rediff said.

Vakow lets users post text messages to its site and share messages with others via phone, e-mail or social networks. The site also lets users follow friends' messages and comment on them from their cell phones.

Rediff's American Depositary Shares rose 32 cents, or 4.9 percent, to $6.91.
