EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - DaVita Inc., which operates kidney dialysis centers, said Thursday Allen Nissenson will become chief medical officer effective Aug. 1.

Nissenson is currently director of the dialysis program at UCLA's David Geffen School of medicine. He is retiring from the school after 31 years.
Nissenson, who has been a consultant for DaVita over the past few years, has previously served as president of the Renal Physicians Association and the National Anemia Action Council.
