NEW YORK - Shares of gold mining companies opened higher Friday as the price of the commodity gained in U.S. trading.
The price of gold rose $9.40 to $924.50 per ounce.
Here is how some gold miners are trading:
Goldcorp Inc. rose $1.65, or 3.7 percent, to $45.05.
Gold Fields Ltd. rose 40 cents, or 3.4 percent, to $12.32.
Newmont Mining Corp. rose 9 cents to $52.27.
Barrick Gold Corp. rose $1.45, or 3.4 percent, to $44.49.
