WASHINGTON - Wireless chip designer Qualcomm Inc. spent nearly $1.5 million in the first quarter lobbying on technology and trade issues, according to a recent disclosure report.

The San Diego-based company lobbied on the use of wireless airwaves, the transition to digital television, patent reform, trade policy, and the research and development tax credit.
Qualcomm also lobbied on the U.S. government's use of the company's technology to defend against cyber attacks, according to the report filed April 18 with the House clerk's office.
In the first three months of the year, Qualcomm lobbied Congress, the National Economic Council, the Patent & Trademark Office, Federal Communications Commission, U.S. Trade Representative, and departments of State, Commerce, Defense, Homeland Security and Justice.
