PALATINE, Ill. - Acura Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Monday it received a $5 million milestone payment from King Pharmaceuticals Inc. for meeting the main goals of a late-stage study on pain relief drug Acurox.
Acurox tablets contain the opioid oxycodone HCl, niacin and several functional inactive ingredients. The drug is designed to relieve pain while deterring prescription drug abuse.
Under an agreement signed in October, King Pharmaceuticals Inc. has a license to market the drug. An Acurox application is expected to be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration for approval by the end of the year.
