FREMONT, Calif. - Semiconductor design software maker Virage Logic Corp. said Monday that it bought radio frequency identification technology company Impinj Inc.'s logic nonvolatile memory intellectual property business for $5.2 million.

Virage said the purchase includes more than 50 Impinj patents. Virage also hired 30 employees formerly with Impinj who worked on the logic nonvolatile memory intellectual property business, most of whom work in research and development.
Virage expects the deal will be neutral to or have a slightly negative effect on its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings and add 3 cents to 6 cents per share to its 2009 earnings.
Virage shares fell 4 cents to $7.15.
