NEW YORK - Shares of electrical equipment companies opened lower on Tuesday as the broader market declined following a report showing another downturn in construction spending in May.
But the decline was moderated by a report from the Institute for Supply Management that said manufacturing activity increased in June.
In industry news, GrafTech International Ltd. said it bought a minority stake in Seadrift Coke LP, a privately held producer of petroleum needle coke, for $135 million.

Emerson Electric Co., down 46 cents, to $48.99.
Cooper Industries Ltd., down 37 cents to $39.13.
GrafTech International, down 83 cents, or 3.1 percent, to $26.
Commscope Inc., down $1.66, or 3.2 percent, to $51.11.
