NEW YORK - Shares of broadline retailers fell on Wednesday as energy prices rose once again.
Crude oil hit a record $144.15 a barrel before pulling back to settle at $143.57, up $2.60 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The Energy Department reported Wednesday that U.S. crude oil supplies fell more than expected last week.
Here's how broadline retailers fared on Wednesday:
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., down 53 cents to $56.50
Target Corp., down 84 cents to $46.69
Costco Wholesale Corp., down 42 cents to $72.13
Macy's Inc., down 52 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $18.83
