Chief Executive Betsy McLaughlin is overseeing the division. The company operates Hot Topic and Torrid stores.

Crooke joined the company on June 2. Before that, he was most recently senior adviser to Steve Case at Revolution Living LLC.

In May, the City of Industry, Calif.-based retailer said its first-quarter loss widened on a drop in sales at stores open at least one year. Total sales rose 1.1 percent to $159 million.

Shares fell 25 cents, or 4.5 percent, to $5.27 during late-day trading.

Hot Topic could not immediately be reached about why Crooke left the company.
