Koppers said the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit reversed a jury verdict that said it was responsible for 20 percent of damages sought by the estate of a Grenada, Miss., woman.
Koppers portion of the original compensatory damages amounted to $169,000, later reduced to $157,000.
The case was the first lawsuit to go to trial in a number of lawsuits relating to the company's wood-treating plant in Grenada, Miss.
Koppers said the Fifth Circuit ruling may lead to the dismissal of other lawsuits filed after the expiration of the Mississippi statute of limitations.
