Authorities say 48-year-old Ward Severts rented the single-engine plane at the Olive Branch, Miss., airport. The plane crashed Saturday in a remote area of Fayette County about 40 miles east of Memphis.

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board were at the scene of the crash on Sunday. The cause of the crash has not been determined.

Severts, a co-pilot aboard a FedEx cargo plane, worked out of Memphis with his primary residence in Boise, Idaho.
