The document filed to the Miami-Dade Country Circuit Court states that extramarital affairs of the remarkable player damaged the relationship. His wife, Cynthia Rodriguez asks for primary custody of their two children, child support and alimony.

"The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct," the document states, according to the Associated Press.

According to the filed documents, Cynthia and Alex had a prenuptial agreement valid since 2002 the year when they got married.

Rodriguez, third baseman for the Yankees was photographed out at night with a former Vegas stripper last year. Recently, he was seen on several late-night visits to Madonna's house in New York according to reports from Us weekly magazine quoting guards of the building.

The report caused more noise amid speculations that Madonna was seeking legal advice to divorce from her husband Guy Ritchie. However, after the reports spread in the media, Madonna's spokeswoman denied any attempt of the singer to divorce from her husband and any affair with Rodriguez.

On Sunday Madonna herself wrote a letter denying any relationship with Rodriguez. Rodriguez has not made comments related to Madonna.

Rodriguez has 20 days to reply to the divorce petition.
