NEW YORK - Shares of insurers edged higher early Tuesday as the broader market rose slightly after Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke said the central bank might extend its lending efforts to investment banks and oil prices declined.
Here's a look at how some insurers fared early Tuesday:
Ambac Financial Group Inc. rose 17 cents, or 12.2 percent, to $1.56.
American International Group Inc. was flat at $25.94.
Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. climbed 71 cents to $64.33.
Safeco Corp. rose 7 cents to $67.13.
